It's a place where the "old drugstore mentality" of dedicated service meets the modern needs of local residents.

While some contemporary reviews touch upon its vintage aesthetic and a perceived lack of modern "testers" for certain product categories, long-time patrons express deep affection and loyalty, highlighting its enduring presence and the personal touch that sets it apart. Colonial Drug is celebrated for its commitment to "providing the best possible healthcare to your entire family by offering personal attention and competitive prices, without long waits." This dedication to personalized service and a deep understanding of customer needs is what has allowed it to thrive for generations.

Beyond its pharmaceutical offerings, Colonial Drug holds a reputation for its extensive and unique selection of fragrances, European dental and hair care products, and other hard-to-find specialty items. It's a place where you might stumble upon a delightful "small treat with purchase" or find that perfect, distinctive gift. • Value on Unique Product Selection: For those seeking unique fragrances, European beauty products, or specialty home healthcare items, Colonial Drug's competitive pricing on these often hard-to-find goods can be considered a perpetual "special offer." The ability to find these items locally, often at reasonable prices, is a significant draw.

This place is unappealing, old, disorganized, and the perfumes behind glass are completely inaccessible. There are no testers. It looks like nothing has been cleaned or touched since 1970. The perfume collection is vintage, but not niche. It’s stuff that was popular 55 years ago, not newer, small brands. Worst of all, the owner has no desire to talk or sell to you. You are irrelevant to him.

Colonial Drug, iconic when in Harvard Square is now in Newton and the same wide selection and knowledgable assistance is on hand. Difficult to find items can be acquired at this amazing shop. The person behind the counter has vast knowledge about the history of and various nuances of the products. Lovely place to shop. Should be at the C. H. Mall but nice to have it nearby on Watertown Street. A quality experience!
