What nest spring fest was
From April 25th to May 8th we gave away one candle a day, which meant fourteen chances to win. Each prize was a Nest Peony Blanche candle, and every day we drew a random entry and announced the winner on Facebook, Twitter and the website.
Winners had thirty days to claim their prize by email. If you lived outside the Annapolis area, we shipped to any continental US address.
A daily draw is a good way to keep a giveaway lively. People check back each morning to see who won, and a lot of regulars told me it was their favorite part of nest spring fest.
The mix of free entry routes made it fair. Someone who never bought a thing could still join by posting and bringing a friend, while loyal customers could earn more with reviews and purchases.
Nest spring fest gave us a reason to celebrate every day for two weeks.
How you could earn entries
There were several ways to join in. You could post that you were there for the festival, bring a new friend to our Facebook page, request a scent sample and share your feedback, buy a Nest fragrance, or review one on the website. A purchase or review earned an entry too.
The sample option was my favorite. Peony is one of those flowers that people either adore or find too powdery, and a sample lets you decide without spending a cent. Tell us what you thought, and you were in the draw.
The new friend entry deserves a mention. When you invited someone, both of you earned a raffle entry, but only if the friend was new to the page. It rewarded sharing without turning into a pile of repeat posts.
Purchases and reviews counted for a window that ran slightly longer than the daily draws. That gave shoppers a chance to buy ahead of Mother’s Day and still take part, and the review entries gave other customers honest notes on each scent.
Nest spring fest worked because the entry routes were easy and free.
Why peony for Mother’s Day
Peony is soft, feminine and a little lush, and in spring it is everywhere. Mother’s Day falls just as peonies bloom in many places, so a peony candle is a natural gift. The history of Mother’s Day gives a short history of the holiday if you want to know how it began.
A candle is also a gift that gets used, which is not true of every bouquet. For many of the mothers I know, a quiet half hour with a lit candle is a better present than a gadget.
Peony Blanche was priced at $32 in our listing. A candle at that price is a thoughtful gift without being fussy, and a bright floral suits a daytime spring celebration.
A peony candle was the perfect prize for nest spring fest, with Mother’s Day coming.
Choosing a peony candle for someone you love
If you are not sure which peony candle to pick for your own mom, think about her taste. A mother who wears light floral perfume will like a watery peony. A mother who prefers a richer, old fashioned rose may want a deeper one.
Our post on Peony Fragrances compares several makers side by side, which is helpful before you buy. And for more present ideas, Mother’s Day Gift Ideas has a few thoughts I would still stand behind.
Nest spring fest has come and gone, but the idea of counting down to Mother’s Day with a small daily treat is worth borrowing. Even a handwritten note once a day makes someone feel remembered.
If you missed nest spring fest, do not worry. We run similar events around other holidays, and the best way to hear about them is to follow the shop online.
Whichever peony you choose, burn it with the window cracked on a mild spring day. Fresh air and a soft floral make a very good pair.
Thank you to everyone who took part in nest spring fest.
