Introducing LAFCO Bar Soap

LAFCO bar soap - soap photo

LAFCO bar soap is the brand’s answer to a simple idea: if there is a LAFCO candle for every room in your house, there should be a bar of soap for every bathroom too. Here is what the maker says is in it, and what our reviewer thought after trying a few scents.

Introducing LAFCO bar soap

There’s a LAFCO candle for every room in your house. Now there’s a LAFCO bar soap for every bathroom in your house.

Same luxurious quality. Same gorgeous fragrances. Same over-sized value.

Once again, LAFCO creates to impress. And succeeds.

With 20 years of experience in working with soap (they are the creators of Claus Porto) LAFCO has developed the perfect bar of soap. This exclusive soap is made in Italy with a custom, unique vegetable base.

This new bar soap just launched and has already been featured on the TODAY Show! We’re sure like many other LAFCO products, it will show up on the O List soon.

What is in LAFCO bar soap: the good and the no-bad lists

All Good:

  • Pure, 100% vegetable base containing 14% cold-pressed olive oil, refined sweet almond oil and coconut oil.
  • Quadruple milled so it will not crack or become soft.
  • Made with a minimum of 92% natural essential oil based fragrances.
  • Forms a thick lather. No shaving cream necessary with this in the shower.
  • Packs a punch at 8.5oz. yet ergonomically designed to fit perfectly in your hand.
  • Exceptionally moisturizing thanks to the almond oil.
  • Housed in a gift-ready box making it a perfect hostess gift.

No Bad:

  • Does not contain solvents or acids.
  • No harsh chemicals or preservatives.
  • Never tested on animals.
  • 100% biodegradable.
  • No Tetra Sodium EDTA. No parabens. No BHT.

Trying the scents: our LAFCO bar soap review

I had a chance to try the new LAFCO bar soap and I love it! The shape is perfect to hold, soft and comfortable. The fragrances are just as amazing as the candles.

The lather was incredible, perfect for shaving. It left my skin feeling very clean and soft. I tried Dutchess Peony, a great, soft, feminine fragrance. I’d like to try the Champagne fragrance next. It smells divine!

Fresh Cut Gardenia is great if you like florals. Chamomile Lavender is perfect for gift-giving and guest bathrooms.

Sea and Dune is great anywhere, anytime, a good, clean scent particularly perfect for summer. Rosemary Eucalyptus is incredibly refreshing and a good eye-opener if you shower early in the morning. This fragrance would also work well for guys.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Reading the label on LAFCO bar soap

A few of the claims on the list are worth a plain-English note. Milling means the soap is pressed and refined several times, which tends to give a harder, smoother, longer lasting bar. LAFCO says its bar is quadruple milled, which is why it is said not to crack or turn soft.

The vegetable base is built around olive oil, and the Wikipedia pages on soap and olive oil explain why plant oils have long been used for soap making. Almond and coconut oils are added to the mix, and the review credits the almond oil for the moisturizing feel.

The 92% natural essential oil fragrance figure means most of the scent comes from plant-based oils. If you have sensitive skin, though, remember that natural does not automatically mean gentle on everyone. Try a new bar on your hands first, and stop if you notice irritation.

Choosing a LAFCO bar soap scent for each bathroom

Because the line mirrors the candle collection, you can match your soap to the room. Chamomile Lavender is the reviewer’s pick for guest bathrooms and gifts. Sea and Dune is the easy, clean option for summer. Rosemary Eucalyptus fits a morning shower, and the reviewer says it works well for guys.

If you prefer florals, Dutchess Peony and Fresh Cut Gardenia are the two to start with, and Champagne is next on the reviewer’s list. Our post on the Lafco Office Rosemary Eucalyptus candle is useful if you want to see how that scent works in a room as well as in the shower.

Getting the most from your LAFCO bar soap

A good bar lasts longer if you let it dry between uses. Keep it on a draining soap dish instead of in a puddle of water, and it will stay firm. The 8.5oz size is large, so it is also a good candidate for a guest bathroom where it is used less often.

The gift-ready box makes it a good hostess gift, as the maker suggests. Pair a bar with a candle in the same scent family for a set that feels thought out. For more on the brand, see Live It Up with LAFCO.
